Merdel is a rural town in Wisconsin.

Pahua Moua moved to the town at the age of seven with her mother and younger brother after her father walked out of their family. Both siblings attend the local elementary school. After Pahua's brother Matt had his soul taken, the boy is brought to the local hospital for observation.
