When Lavinia Asimov scolds Apollo for not taking Terpsichore's shoes, he says the fallen god has other things to deal with and she mocks his legion issued boots, which he really enjoys. When Apollo informs the fifth of the Greek Fire canons Triumvirate Holdings has on each of the Julia Drusilla Yachts, he says they are doomed. He later participates in the archery class and does okay.

When Lavinia orders the Fifth Cohort, including Thomas, to run to Temple Hill, he does so. By this time, Thomas is one of the lieutenants of the cohort and the only member that Nico di Angelo recognizes aside from Vitellius.

Thomas is shown not be afraid to break up awkward conversations, but he is able to become unsettled when grim news is heard and he becomes a pessimist.
